Notification delivery

Where to find it: the gear icon (Notification preferences) in the Inbox toolbar opens the Notification delivery modal. You configure delivery one project at a time. If no project is currently active, the modal just asks you to select one first.

Why does Inbox always keep a copy?

Your Inbox is the one durable record. Every personal notification lands there first, always. The other channels below are copies. Turn them on or off per project so new Needs you-worthy items also reach you somewhere you are more likely to notice them right away.

What are the four rows?

  • Inbox: always on, cannot be turned off. It is the canonical record; everything else is a mirror of it.
  • Slack: read-only from this modal, because Slack is the project's shared surface, not a personal switch. If the project has a connected Slack channel, you are mentioned there when something needs you, and this row just names the channel (#channel-name). If the project has no Slack connection, or no channel linked yet, the row explains which of those two is missing and links to Integrations → Communication to set it up (or to change the channel if one is already linked).
  • E-mail: a toggle. When on, new personal Inbox items are also sent to your account e-mail.
  • In-app: a toggle for a banner-and-sound alert on new items that need you, on this device only. Unlike the other three rows, this one lives in your browser's local storage rather than on the server, so it is per-browser and per-device and does not follow you to a different machine or browser profile. Turning it on also unlocks notification sound playback for this browser tab.

The in-app banner and sound

With In-app enabled, a new item that needs you (assigned, an approval, a question: anything landing in Needs you) triggers the following, while you have the app open in this browser:

  • A dismissible banner in the top-center of the screen for about 10 seconds, showing the item's title and a short body. Clicking it navigates straight to that item in Inbox (on the right lane) and dismisses the banner; the × dismisses without navigating.
  • A short synthesized "ping" sound alongside it, with no audio file involved, so it works in any modern browser. Browsers require a real user click, keypress, or touch before they will allow any sound to play; the very first interaction with the page after enabling In-app quietly unlocks this for the rest of the session.

This rail only fires for items that are new since you started this session and that actually need you. It never re-fires for something you already had open, and it never fires for plain Updates.
