Managing conversations
The left sidebar of the Chat page is your conversation list for the current project. Each conversation ("session") belongs to the project, not just to you, so anyone with Use project chat on that project can open it. Hiding, restoring, and deleting are personal-list actions (below); the conversation and its messages themselves are always shared.
The conversation list
- New Chat (a + button above the list) clears the current thread and composer so you can start fresh. It only shows if you can currently send messages (see Composing and messages and the disabled cases below).
- Conversations are grouped under Today, Yesterday, and Older, based on each one's last update.
- A pinned conversation shows a pin icon and stays at the top of its date group.
- A small pulsing dot means ACE is still working on a reply in that thread.
- Clicking a conversation opens it and loads its full message history.
- An empty list reads "No conversations yet." (or "No hidden conversations." while browsing hidden ones).
Hiding and restoring
The toggle above the list reads Show hidden (and becomes Show active once pressed), switching between your active conversations and the ones you have hidden. Hiding is personal, and only affects your own list:
- Hiding removes it from your active list. The prompt reads "Hide this conversation? It will disappear only from your active list. The project conversation stays open and visible to everyone else." It confirms with "Conversation hidden from your list."
- Restoring puts it back on your active list. The prompt reads "Show this conversation again? It will return to your active list. This does not change the shared conversation." It confirms with "Conversation returned to your list."
- Opening a hidden conversation shows a banner, "Hidden from your active list — show it again to continue chatting.", and hides the composer until you show it again.
- Browsing the hidden list without picking one shows "Select a hidden conversation" (or "No hidden conversations" if you have none).
The actions menu
Every conversation row has a ⋯ actions menu, available to anyone with Use project chat:
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Pin for me / Unpin for me | Personal pin. Keeps the conversation at the top of its date group on your list only. |
| Hide for me / Show for me | Toggles the hidden state above. |
| Delete permanently | Only shown to members who additionally have delete rights on that conversation. Irreversible: "Delete conversation permanently? This permanently removes the conversation and its messages for everyone in the project. This cannot be undone." Confirms with "Conversation permanently deleted." |
Pinning is also available from the open conversation's header, next to its title (Pin / Unpin).
Following a conversation
An open conversation's header has a Follow / Following control. Following surfaces the conversation's important updates in your Updates and notifications feed. It does not assign anything to you or change who else can see the conversation.
When is the composer disabled?
- No active project. You see the "No project yet" screen with a Create a project button instead of Chat.
- No
Use project chatpermission. Chat does not appear in the sidebar at all for that project. - Project not editable right now (provisioning, archived, being deleted, and so on). You keep read access to every past conversation, but see: "Read only — chat history remains available, but new turns require an active project."
- Viewing a hidden conversation. Show it again first.
- Billing issues. Sending fails with a plain-language message instead of an error code:
- Out of workspace credits: "Your workspace is out of credits. Add credits or upgrade the plan in Settings → Billing to keep going."
- Project over its credit budget: "This project reached its credit budget for the period. Raise the project budget in Settings → Billing, or wait for the next cycle."
- Subscription past due: "Your subscription is past due. Update billing in Settings → Billing to keep going."
Credits, budgets, and plans are managed in the Billing guide.
