Action required and work handoff
When ACE needs your input
Sometimes ACE needs a decision or an answer before it can keep going. This shows up right inside the message stream as a card labeled action required, asking either an approval question (shown as buttons) or a set of questions (shown as a small form). If you do not have permission to respond, you still see the card, but read-only.
Turning a request into tracked work
You describe what you want in plain language, "fix the login redirect bug" or "add a CSV export button", and send it like any other message. For questions and explanations, ACE just answers in the conversation. For real work like a fix or a new feature, ACE can turn it into an actual card and hand it off from the conversation, tagged back to it, so it is tracked rather than lost in scrollback.
When that happens, a work handoff card appears inline in the thread, labeled either:
- "Card needs you": ACE needs a decision to keep the handed-off work moving, shown with the same approval or question card used for other action required prompts.
- "Human decision closed": a record that a decision on that handoff has already been made and resolved.
Running and executing the resulting work (dispatching, further checkpoints, review) happens on the card itself outside of Chat.
Chat is where the ask happens. The resulting card is where the work gets tracked and carried out.
